So one of my favorite bands holds a design contest asking fans to submit a MySpace design for the band based on their (then) new album “Chase This Light”. The band released the original artwork assets and asked fans to go to town. I nonchalantly whipped up this mock and submitted a flattened JPG to their blog saying here’s what I came up with and no way I’m coding this without approval. Got an email from Interscope Records rep saying the band loved my design the best which made me the grand winner. I quickly coded this profile into the MySpace platform which was my first time coding an out-of-the-box MySpace layout and the profile launched! I got a bunch of cool signed shwag from the band, and my design ended up being featured for over a year. They even let me put my “created by” attribution at the bottom to which I was hit up from tons of indie bands praising my work and wanting to hire me to create their space…for free.
